Description
Growing up in Northern Ontario in the 1950's and 60's is an experience that cannot be relived today. This book encompasses the history of the Iroquois Falls area and is a memoire of the Authors life, growing up in this unique area. History buffs will love this book, as it includes all of the history of the towns of Iroquois Falls, Ansonville and Montrock.
We learn about Lake Abitibi, the Abitibi River, the waterfalls known as Iroquois Falls, the construction of the world's largest newsprint mill, a model town, and two adjacent towns across the tracks. It is the story a young boy growing up in Ansonville, his family, friends, and the adults he knew, and how they impacted his life. It’s about people isolated and divided for 40 years, who come together to build a unique hockey arena. The story is told by simply stating the facts: this is how it was. There are some blemishes—it was not a perfect world but it shaped the boy’s soul and prepared him for the outside world.
