What made you write “I’m Getting New Glasses!”?\u003cbr\u003e\nI wanted to be an encouraging voice but didn't know what form that would take. I got my first pair of glasses after getting hit in the eye with a ball. My husband is an optometrist. Between the two things, I think I just really saw and experienced the insecurity that can come with getting eyeglasses. I want to help change that and saw an opportunity to help kids love their glasses and feel better about getting them. So I started writing and sketching and my first picture book, “I’m Getting New Glasses!” was the result!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWhat was your inspiration for “I’m Getting New Glasses!”?\u003cbr\u003e\nI think a lot about how small shifts in perspective can change and improve our experience. I applied that idea to picking out eyeglasses. Eyeglasses come in so many colors and styles now! It’s fun to pick something that reflects who you are, what you like, and how you want to feel. Getting new glasses doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. It can be something fun and special about visiting the eye doctor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWho would enjoy this book?\u003cbr\u003e\nThis book makes a great gift for young children and preschoolers who are getting glasses as well as kids who get flagged at pediatric and school vision screenings. I like putting choices into kids’ hands. Especially in an era of screens and electronics, I want to inspire kids to get creative and think about being silly and playful.
